Accusonus wound down its plugins without ever confirming Meta

The audio task

A podcaster or video editor with a noisy room recording needs fast reverb and noise removal without a trained audio engineer's manual repair session. Greek company Accusonus built the ERA bundle of plugins for exactly that de-noising and de-reverb workflow, alongside a Voice Changer tool, before the company stopped developing them.

What the documents show

Reuters reported on 1 February 2022 that "Meta Platforms Inc, the owner of Facebook, is close to acquiring Greek audio software startup Accusonus, a person with knowledge of the deal said," while noting "Facebook spokespeople declined to confirm the deal" and a company spokesperson said only "we don't comment on rumours or speculation." No press release from either company confirming a completed acquisition was found on Accusonus's own site. What is confirmed on Accusonus's own help centre, updated 4 March 2022, is that the company would "sunset the ERA Bundle products and Voice Changer early next year," freezing them at a final version with no further updates or testing against new operating systems. By October 2022, Accusonus's own homepage, archived, read simply: "Accusonus is embarking on a new adventure," without naming a buyer.

Rights status

No document opened for this piece states, on the record, that Meta completed an acquisition of Accusonus; the only sourcing for that claim is Reuters' single-source report, explicitly unconfirmed by both companies at the time of publication. What is independently confirmed by Accusonus's own materials is the wind-down of consumer plugin support, which is consistent with, but does not itself prove, an acquisition by any particular company.
