Beatport will not accept tracks that are substantially AI-generated

The audio task

A producer preparing a track for a DJ-focused store, or a curator deciding what to feature, needs to know where Beatport draws the line between a human-made record using AI somewhere in the chain and a record that AI substantially generated. Beatport's own published stance addresses that boundary specifically.

What the documents show

The stance, updated 11 August 2026, states it is Beatport's “policy not to accept music on our platform that has been wholly or substantially generated by AI,” and clarifies the policy “targets generative AI and the use of AI to clone or replicate the voices or performances of other artists without explicit, legally cleared permission.” The document says Beatport is “not discouraging the use of assistive AI tools for mixing, mastering, stem separation, or standard audio processing,” provided they are “utilized to enhance human creativity,” and names an expanded partnership with fraud-detection specialist Beatdapp to identify AI-generated content on delivery. Beatport's companion Terms and Conditions, last updated 27 August 2026, add definitions the stance does not spell out: “AI-assisted Content” is content that “utilizes AI technology as a tool within the creative workflow, but where the primary authorship and artistic control remain human,” while “AI-generated” content is “created substantially or wholly by generative AI technology.” The terms also prohibit “using any Content...for the purpose of text and data mining, training, developing or enhancing any artificial intelligence...systems.”

Rights status

Beatport states its policy in operational terms, not as a copyright ruling. The strongest prohibition is tied to consent: AI used “to clone or replicate the voices or performances of other artists without explicit, legally cleared permission” is named as a defined violation category alongside wholly AI-generated tracks. The terms state that violating the AI provisions “will be considered a material breach of this Agreement and may result in immediate termination of your access to Beatport's services and Content, as well as potential legal action if copyright laws have been impacted,” and that Beatport “retains the right to reject or remove any Content that it suspects may be substantially AI-generated” at its “sole discretion.”

What to check before you use it

This is an editorial checklist. Before submitting a track: identify every AI-assisted stage in the session and classify it against Beatport's own definitions of assistive versus generative use; keep documentation of any cleared permission for a modeled voice or performance; and recheck the Terms and Conditions directly, since the stance says both documents “are likely to evolve over time.”

Beatport frames both documents as unfinished, saying readers should “refer back to both these Terms and Conditions and Beatport's Stance on Artificial Intelligence to stay up to date,” which makes this a living position rather than a fixed rulebook, even though each page carries a specific update date.
