LANDR's Samples licence outlasts the subscription

The audio task

A producer sourcing loops and one-shots for a track wants confidence that a sound downloaded today will still be usable in that track years later, even if the subscription that paid for it eventually lapses. That question matters more for a subscription sample library than for a one-time purchase, because the download and the ongoing payment are no longer the same transaction.

What the documents show

LANDR's Samples product page describes a separate service from LANDR's mastering tool: a browsable library billed through a credit system, described as '100% Royalty-free' with 'no hassle of clearing samples.' LANDR's Terms of Service spell out the mechanics in a dedicated Samples Service section: a user redeems Credits to download a Sample, and once redeemed, the file can be re-downloaded without spending further Credits. The terms then grant 'a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable licence' to reproduce a Sample as incorporated into a Recording and to distribute or perform that Recording, 'including for commercial purposes.' The same clause states plainly that 'your music is yours,' meaning the producer owns the Recording, while clarifying this 'doesn't mean you own any rights on any Sample, even when they are incorporated.' The licence excludes standalone use of a Sample as a sound effect or loop, resale or redistribution of the Sample itself, building a new sample library from it, and using it to train machine learning models.

Rights status

Because the terms describe the Samples Licence as perpetual, a Recording that incorporates a Sample keeps that licence once granted, independent of whether the underlying LANDR subscription continues. This licence applies specifically to the Samples Service; it is separate from LANDR's mastering terms, which this article does not address. What to check before you use it

This is an editorial checklist. Confirm the download that matters actually redeemed a Credit under the terms, since that transaction is what the perpetual licence attaches to. Keep the Sample incorporated inside the finished Recording rather than isolated as a standalone loop or hit, since isolated use falls outside the granted licence regardless of how the Sample was obtained. If a project also used LANDR's mastering service, treat that as a separate agreement with its own terms, not covered by the Samples Licence described here.

• Is the Sample used only as incorporated into a finished Recording, not isolated or repackaged on its own?

LANDR's own terms answer the lapsed-subscription question explicitly rather than through a marketing FAQ: the Samples Licence is perpetual once granted, tied to the Recording it was incorporated into, not to a continuing subscription payment.
